Judging: Digi Awards 2011

CorpComms Digi Awards I was recently asked by CorpComms Magazine if I would come and judge their Digital Awards for the second year running. How lovely.

I enjoyed the whole process immensely in 2010 and am delighted to be asked to do it again in 2011… especially when it’ll be in such esteemed company – for a full list of the judges see  http://www.corpcommsmagazine.co.uk/awards/digi/judging

Last year the calibre of the entries was very high, and my favourites included Walker’s Sandwich campaign and the Met Police’s ‘Choose another ending’.

I am really looking forward to seeing the entries this year, and I hope that at least some of my favourite campaigns and brands from the past year are on there. Bring it on!

So Social Media Week is upon us and, although we have to confess that we aren’t entirely sure what the point of it is, it’s probably better to have one than not, so we’re looking forward to taking part where we can.

All in all these are exciting times for Social Media and although we are still seeing evidence that the UK is behind the curve compared to a lot of other countries, especially in the so called ‘expert arena’ ie agencies, the progress that is being made here and around the world is highly encouraging and exciting.

So what is catching our attention in this highlighted week? Well, Pepsi are launching a new women’s network to coincide with Social Media Week. While you may be forgiven for thinking there are already a fair few of these, in fact surveys and research show that  women are is are hugely influential force online, which is exactly why a major brand is prepared to back such a venture.

In other interesting developments, there is evidence that digital and social media are becoming the norm in even the highest of circles:  we have news that the House of Lords has been given permission to use iPads in the chamber, and we were thrilled last week to have such close access to Davos. It would seem that even the most powerful people in the world have now embraced Social Media.
