Digital marketing and social media management is a fast-moving area of business. It’s seen exciting growth over the last couple of years and is definitely the future. However, many professionals in marketing and management are merely dabbling around the edges and blagging, and to many corporate personnel it can seem unfamiliar and overwhelming.
However, most corporates do now realise that this is an area that they need to address (and fast) and are looking for skilled staff to help them make swift progress. But as many HR personnel and recruiters are out of their comfort zone in this area, it can be a tricky business finding the right people to employ and to know who is blagging and who is the real McCoy.
This is a very real problem, as we have seen companies asking for impossible people (a technical genius who is creative with good marketing and management skills), read very strange job specs (‘part-time’ online brand reputation manager anyone?) and generally a lot of confusion all round about what they actually need and what it will cost to get experienced personnel.
On the other side of the coin, there are a lot of candidates out there who are slightly deluded blagging about their ability to fulfil certain roles, while many of the really qualified people in this area work for agencies or are freelance and would need a serious salary to make them think of a change of tack.
All in all, it can be a testing time for a company looking to make a strong start to their digital presence.
Which is where we come in.
In conjunction with our recruitment partner, Sarah Callery of Intuition Global (see box, right), we will help with all your recruitment needs in the digital marketing, social media management and online brand management.
We will help you spec your job descriptions and work with you to decide what you actually need – in the first instance, for example, you may need to recruit for a certain role and get specialist training for the new recruit and at the same time use freelance and agency expertise to fill the gap until your new recruit is up to speed. Using an integrated approach means that you can get going fast, with really high level people working on the job, but without breaking the budget.
